Most electrical test tools are used to create signals and capture responses from electronic devices under test (DUTs) This is to determine faults in the device and allow them to be traced and or repaired.
There are a wide range of electrical testing procedures that can be used with a multitude of portable appliance testing equipment for each specific use, test equipment can be hired or bought depending on the predicted longevity of its use and desired test equipment solutions. There are a large variety of different forms of electronic equipment testing ranging from the very simple and cheap to extremely complex pieces of electrical test equipment.
More advanced equipment is needed when developing circuits and systems or within production testing and pat testing. PAT Tester stands for Portable Appliance Testing and it is a necessity within the UK that appliances undergo a routine pat test using the correct and approved electrical safety testing.

The 17th edition, released in January 2008, is the latest edition of BS7671, and became effective for all electrical installations designed after July 2008. The idea of 17th Edition electrical testing is to improve the level of protection against electrical shock in the UK to a level comparable to that in other EU countries. The 17th edition now requires a range of compatible 17th Edition test equipment that is up to the job.
